Movies, why I don't watch them twice, ever!

Movies, they're fascinating, a one to two-hour visual form of entertainment that captures the minds of fantasies and inspires others to rethink their situation. A common question asked between friends is "what's your favorite movie?" Personally, my favorite movies tend to be the ones I watched more recently, there is only so much memory in your mind to be able to list them off unless they had an actual impact on you. In the past, movies were for young couples to escape the neighborhood and go on a date. This may still be the case today, but with our current technology, we all prefer to hang out at someone's house and watch it there. It is much easier than trying to smuggle candy and face the movie theater prices head-on. While it is true you can't beat the movie theater atmosphere, I prefer a quieter setting. For those who like people standing up all the time and coming in late, not to mention the loud children and the occasional person coughing, I salute you. Movies are fun! They are a director's creative vision coming to life. Many types of movies exist and to this day people still believe "based on a true story" means that it actually happened scene by scene. There are also several genres and each person is hard-wired differently to enjoy certain genres, whether its horror or romance, there is no such thing as a person that doesn't enjoy movies. The best movies, in my opinion, are the ones that have a plot twist or a cliff hanger. A person who is a movie expert will tell you that often times sequels will suck. This has been the case with many movies, but if it is a good movie, then more of it shouldn't hurt!

In order for you to understand why I don't watch movies twice, you have to understand my view of time. Every day we have 24 hours, 6-8 hours are spent sleeping, and for most this is longer (or they wish it was). The average lifespan in our current day is about 70 years old, which means most of us have a set time clock. Set aside religion or science for a moment, we can all agree that one way or another we are going to perish at some point. Disappointing right? Well, you may have met people who don't "have time" to "go to the gym" or "read that new book". It is true, college students, working parents, and high school athletes may not have much time, but there exists a firm theory based on "making time". You should make time for things you want to do, after all, everyone has a hobby and/or passion. When it comes to my mind, I understand our limited time and the concept of "you just never know when you're gonna go". This leads me to try and not waste time in order to experience Earthly things as much as I can before time runs out. While it may be a strange concept to understand, there's a simple way to explain it. Let's say you have an hour to accomplish three assignments. Each assignment takes 30 minutes. Obviously, you would choose two that you want to do. But take into consideration someone who does one assignment and then does the same assignment again. Does this make sense? This appears to be a waste, there is a slim amount of people who would even think to do one assignment twice when they can do two instead. Not being able to do the third is an example of how in life, you might not be able to get to everything, so it is critical to prioritize and learn to make decisions. If you understand this concept, then you understand why I don't rewatch movies. There is so much content out there and there is no need to waste time by rewatching it. Now, I understand we all have favorites and classic movies exist, I also understand rewatching a movie due to wanting to watch a series in order, or the final episode came out so you want to binge. These are perfectly sound excuses, however, my mind is hardwired to comprehend the concept of limited-time which forces decisions to be made.

A second concept is the idea of predictability. Obviously, by rewatching a movie, you already know the ending. Perhaps you are rewatching to show a friend and get their reaction. My personal pet peeve has to do with movies that you can predict the ending to halfway through it or worse, in the beginning. For movie lovers, this signifies a weak movie, the plot is weak, the main characters will live on, blah blah seen it. My advice would consist of realizing when a movie seems predictable, so you can move on. It is simple, I know, but I have heard of too many people who have suffered due to critics "raving about it", but it turned out that you shouldn't have trusted the critics.

I will touch upon movie trailers in a separate blog
